Position Title: Assistive Technology and Testing Accommodations Coordinator

Job Description:

Reporting to the Director of the Accessibility Resource Center, the Assistive Technology & Testing Accommodations Coordinator plays a key role in supporting students with disabilities by overseeing both the assistive technology services and the day-to-day operations of the Accessibility Resource Center's testing accommodations. This position ensures equitable access to academic resources and exams, maintains the Adaptive Technology Lab, supports the use of digital tools and accessible formats, and collaborates with faculty and staff to foster an inclusive learning environment in compliance with ADA , Section 504, and university policies.

This position is not remote.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES :

Assistive Technology Services:

  • Manage the Adaptive Technology Lab, including all hardware and software systems, and develop efficient workflows.
  • Conduct assessments and provide individualized training on tools such as screen readers ( JAWS , NVDA ), Read&Write, Kurzweil, MAGic, Dragon, Otter.ai, and Speak Q.
  • Assist students in accessing course materials in alternate formats, including eBooks, enlarged text, and audio, using platforms such as AccessText, Learning Ally, and Bookshare.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of assistive technology equipment and software licenses.
  • Provide training to faculty and staff in creating accessible content
  • Collaborate with faculty, instructional designers, and IT to support accessible course content and online learning environments.
  • Stay current with emerging assistive technologies and accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG 2.1).


Testing Accommodations Coordination:

  • Schedule and proctor exams for students with accommodations, ensuring secure administration and proper implementation of approved testing supports (e.g., extended time, distraction-reduced settings, readers/scribes, assistive technology).
  • Coordinate with instructors to obtain, administer, and return exams securely and with fidelity to any specific instructions.
  • Train and supervise part-time proctors and student workers as needed.
  • Monitor the testing environment to maintain academic integrity and support students' self-regulation needs.
  • Assist in ensuring that course content on campus-wide learning management systems and other online platforms meets state and federal web accessibility standards.
  • Maintain confidential testing and accommodation records, including usage data for reporting and continuous improvement.


General and Administrative Duties:

  • Prepare reports and contribute to year-end evaluations of assistive technology and testing services.
  • Conduct workshops or create instructional materials to raise awareness and proficiency in adaptive technology and accessible testing practices.
  • Collect and assess student and faculty feedback for service improvement
  • Attend professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in disability services and assistive technology.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of closed captioning and audio transcription practices.
  • Experience embossing text files into Braille using Duxbury.
  • Familiarity with Braille displays and embossing tools (e.g., Juliet Pro, BrailleNote, etc.).
  • Knowledge of hearing aids, FM systems, and other augmentative communication tools.
  • Experience proctoring exams and coordinating testing accommodations.
  • Experience using text conversion and editing tools (e.g., ABBYY FineReader) to produce accessible formats (e.g., PDF , audio, DAISY ).
  • Proficiency with screen-reading, text-to-speech, and note-taking software (e.g., JAWS , NVDA , Read&Write, Kurzweil, MAGic, Dragon, Otter.ai, Glean, Speak Q).
  • Knowledge of accommodation and learning management systems.
  • Certification in accessibility or assistive technology (e.g., CPACC , WAS , ATACP ).
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, Rehabilitation, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Relevant experience in academic support, disability services, or assistive technology coordination.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in educational technologies and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Experience using data for program evaluation and planning.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with a diverse student, staff, and faculty population.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities in a college or university setting.

Physical Demands

  • Office and testing center environment with frequent student interaction.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 25 lbs. and set up assistive equipment.
  • Typically Light Work-Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.

  • Occasional early morning, evening, or weekend hours during peak testing times.
  • Evening availability, as needed.

Hours of Work

Monday - Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
